What is CLOUD COMPUTING? What is it Used For?

Cloud Computing now offers us sophisticated services (online software, data backup, etc.) that can be used at will from anywhere in the world as long as we have an internet connection.
The Cloud represents a trend change, instead of obtaining functionalities and computing power by acquiring hardware and software, we prefer to use computing power and storage made available by a supplier through its Web browser.

This term has recently become a trendy term, we hear, we talk but we do not see it. But what is it? What service does it provide and why do we use the Cloud more and more?

1. Computing in the Cloud?

Cloud Computing uses the computing and storage capacities of several remote computers linked to each other on the same network. Your data and now your applications are then hosted in a “cloud” of computers and no longer on one or more local computers or your workstation. The Internet is a good example of Cloud Computing, the pages you surf are not stored on your pc but a remote server networked with thousands of other servers.

It offers us, today sophisticated services ( online software, data backup, etc. ) that can be used at will from anywhere in the world as long as we have an Internet connection. The Cloud represents a trend change, instead of obtaining functionalities and computing power through the acquisition of hardware and software, we prefer to use computing power and storage made available by a supplier through its Web browser.

2. Example of application in Cloud Computing mode

Among all the Cloud offers of the moment, Dropbox is a good example of the possibilities in terms of a “Cloud Computing” data backup service. With its mobile Dropbox application, it is notably possible to automatically save the photos taken with your smartphone or tablet to your Dropbox. Once the files are transferred, they are synced to your computer and all your other devices, and then you can share them at will.

3. The explosion of the cloud concept

The concept of Cloud is now taking center stage thanks to the concept of SaaS (Software As A Service), it consists of offering you online applications, consumed, and paid on demand. SaaS, therefore, corresponds to a new economic model that is being implemented in addition to already existing licensing models.

All the big software publishers (examples: sage, Microsoft, adobe…) have well-integrated this new model and are eager to offer a software solution and new services in the “SaaS” model.

With all its advantages: Data recovery, no investment costs, competitiveness, mobility, increased collaboration, and security, the heyday of Cloud Computing is coming and you will still be talking about it a lot!
